TP Matrix is enabling train companies to overcome obsolescence by giving Door Control Units (DCUs) a new lease of life.
With some manufacturers stopping their support for DCUs earlier than expected, train operators and maintenance companies have been facing a big issue, which TP Matrix is now helping them to resolve.
“Some of the DCUs that have been declared obsolete are only 10 to 15 years old and were expected to be in service for a further 20 to 25 years,” explained Liam McDonnell, TP Matrix’s technical director.
“In most cases, the solution proposed by the manufacturer is the purchase of a new DCU. This is an expensive option and there can be further costs involved in re-designing and modifying the door system.”
Enabling train operators and maintainers across Europe to continue with their existing DCUs, TP Matrix’s support service is based on its experience of repairing and overhauling units made by different manufacturers across the world.
“Thousands of DCUs are potentially affected by the manufacturers’ decisions. There’s clearly a need for support and we’re pleased to be able to offer it,” added Liam.
TP Matrix’s Door Control Unit (DCU) support service covers the following:
- Condition assessments of DCUs
- Reverse engineering solutions for unsupported DCUs
- Repairing and/or overhauling DCUs
- Designing and building bespoke test equipment to fully test DCUs after any repair/overhaul
- Writing test specifications, if required
- Sourcing, supplying, and fitting any potentially obsolete components with like-for-like – Form, Fit, Function
